This year’s sell-out Concert was once again a great success, our headline performers Gillian Wells and Helen Wilkins were truly outstanding and our guests the Marshfield Male Voice Choir provided a special and unusual twist to the evening, which reinforced the wealth of talent we have locally. All this despite the various misfortunes that beset our performers. Firstly Gilly was suffering from a cold which threatened to stop her singing altogether and on the day before the concert Deryck Hanchett, MD of the Marshfield Male Voice Choir was admitted to the RUH. Happily ‘performance adrenalin’ stepped in and Gilly was able to sing while our local thespian, George Gent, took over the introductions and John James took up the baton for the Male Voice Choir ably supported by accompanist Joy Cheverton.
Particular thanks go to Janet and Heather for organising the event and to all those wonderful volunteers who helped with flowers, canapés, drink and logistics and to PODPADS for supplying the gazebos and lighting. Most of all, a huge thank you to both Helen and Gilly; we wish them every success with the next stage of their careers. Gilly is now back at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she is in the final year of her Masters in Vocal Performance.
